Parents and Community

Even though Young Life is especially for kids, parents and other adults in the community are important to Young Life. Adults can support Young Life in a variety of ways — by becoming a volunteer leader or committee member, by attending a Young Life fund-raising event, by hosting Young Life or by simply telling others in the community about Young Life and its commitment to kids.

Keeping Kids Safe

An important part of our committment to kids is how we keep kids safe. Our staff and volunteer leaders know they are responsible for modeling lives of hope and integrity.Young Life's Human Resources department has developed missionwide policies and procedures to ensure that kids are protected when they are with Young Life staff and/or leaders as well as when kids are part of Young Life'sponsored activities.

How Can Adults Help the Mission?

Serve on the Board of Directors (we call it our local Committee)

Each local area has its own committee of adults that believes in the mission of Young Life. You’ll find doctors, lawyers, teachers, pastors, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers on committees — and lots of moms and dads who care about kids.

Almost 15,000 adults serve on Young Life committees across the country.   Members of a Young Life committee are adults who are committed to providing every kid in their community the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ in terms they can understand. Committee members pray for Young Life, promote the ministry in the community, care for the local staff and volunteer leaders, as well as ensure the financial health of the ministry.

Become a Financial Donor
Financial gifts are essential to Young Life Kansas City Urban Area because the  staff are responsible for raising 100 percent of their budgets, which mainly include camp scholarship for kids, staff salaries, administrative costs and programming costs.

As a donor to Young Life you can specify how you want your money to be used —program expenses, funding a yearly event, sending a teenager to camp (campership), providing and helping the financial costs of providing transportation for kids, etc.  Or you can allow the area staff to use the money where they see the greatest need.

Support our Volunteers

There is a need to care for and support our volunteer leaders.  Would you like to fill a special role in our local Young Life area - there is a great opportunity for someone who loves the idea of remembering leaders on their birthdays and special occassions, for providing a meal for leadership team meetings occassionally, and providing opportunities for fellowship and fun for leaders.

Do you have connections locally that can provide leaders with a fun night out?  Do you have extra frequent flyer miles that you would like to donate to our leadership team (to allow us to attend additional training opportunities)?  Do you have a lake or vacation home that you can offer for a retreat once or twice a year?

If the answer is yes to any of the above or if you have other creative ideas,  please contact Leonard Davis at Kansas City Urban Young Life office at 816-471-1177.

Calling All Basketball Players!

Do you have a passion for basketball that you would like to share with some kids?

On most Mondays, there are 30+ kids on the basketball court at 9500 Wornall Road and on Wednesdays at 7850 Holmes Road.  These young high school and middle school kids desperately need adult friends.  If you would like to play some ball and make some adolescent friends for the Kingdom, please call Kansas City Urban Young Life office at 816-471-1177.
